How to Prepare for a headshot

Updated: May 25, 2018

You’ve booked a photoshoot to get a new professional headshot. You are feeling accomplished that you made that phone call and can soon cross that off your to do list, but then you feel overwhelmed. What do I wear, what will be flattering, how am I supposed to smile? These might be some of the thoughts that are running through your mind. We want you to feel prepared and confident, so here are a few tips.

What to Wear:

Ladies: Solid colors are a great option! If you choose to wear a pattern, pick a more subtle one as the focus is you, not the pattern you're wearing.

Men: Layers add dimension and interest. A blazer and shirt or suit and tie photograph very well. See example below.

Both: Wear something that you are confident in. We want to showcase you and when you are relaxed and comfortable, it shines through.

You will be able to view your photos as they are being taken so you can make adjustments to your outfit, hair, etc. Sam will give clear instructions for you so you know exactly what to do to get a great professional photo.

Tips for Your Smile:

Try to smile naturally. If you are having a hard time doing this, a good trick is to put your tongue at the roof of your mouth just behind your teeth.
